Inside Moves uses Glass Racks to save Packing Cost

Got art? Ask us about the glass rack by Inside Moves. While this doesn’t work on canvases most art can be moved with this great system. We use pads and cardboard to protect your art, moving them the same way a glasser would. This a saves the cost of a glass pack and works great for local moves.

Yard Sales and organizing Tips from PackRat and Inside Moves

Some of us are yardsale Kings and Queens, I need help with it. Here are some great tips.

Best one is don’t move trash, if you have the time sort, sort, sort and sort again, this will save you time and money when moving time occurs.

Yard Sale Mania! Tips to Have a Successful Sale

Friends,1-800-PACK-RAT says, “It’s time.”

Last night we stumbled over boxes stashed in the garage. This morning, we opened a closet and toys tumbled out. We can’t shut dresser drawers because we’ve got too many clothes. It’s time for a yard sale!

Yard sales are a great way to earn extra cash while de-cluttering your home and garage. You’ll be surprised at what people will buy, even if you think it’s junk. 1-800-PACK-RAT once witnessed a tug-of-war over an old ceramic frog wearing a knit hat, so don’t be afraid to put out those chia pets and potted plastic plants.

Here’s how you can have a successful sale that really moves your stuff:

1. Find out whether your neighborhood or local government has restrictions on yard and garage sales. You may need a permit.

2. Decide if you want to include other families in your sale. Bigger sales draw more potential customers.

3. Advertise with signs and flyers (again, check to make sure this is permitted in your area). Run an ad in your local paper, or on a free website like Yard Sale Search or GarageSaleHunter. Give the date, time, and location.

4. Have plenty of change on hand, both in coins and bills.

5. Tag or mark each item clearly. You’ll often sell more dishes, glasses, and cups if you offer them in sets.

6. Got extra produce from your garden? Arrange it attractively and offer it for sale, too.

7. String a clothesline to display clean, re-usable clothes and tablecloths.

8. Group small items on tables. Have an outlet available so shoppers can test appliances.

9. Be willing to negotiate. People love bargains.

We hope you end your sale with a stuffed cash box and an empty garage. But what if you don’t? Sometimes bad weather ruins your day, or a big game on TV lures you’re your customers. What if you’re stuck with your own ceramic frog??

Don’t lug all your stuff back inside. Call 1-800-PACK-RAT, and let us deliver one of our secure, weatherproof storage units to your doorstep. Pack it when you have time, then give us a call. We’ll come back to get it and store it for you it in one of our climate-controlled warehouses. Your belongings will be safe until you’re ready for to have another garage sale.

Remember: someday, somebody out there will want that frog!

Get Organized with Our Friend, Karl Champley

You may know Karl from the DIY network. He is an organizational expert and knows how to get things done. Not only is Karl’s new book (Same Place More Space: 50 projects to maximize every room in the house) coming out soon, he shared with us a few key organizational tips.

  • Tackle one room at a time and get the whole family involved.
  • Empty your entire rooms’ contents into your container to sort through it all. This enables you to start with a clean slate and gives you better vision of the entire space. You will also save time!
  • Set up designated piles: Keep, recyclables, donation, throw away or consider a garage/yard sale for some quick cash. Remember, this money can go towards a good organization system or towards your 1-800-PACK-RAT container rental!
  • Be ruthless: Reclaim your real estate. Remember if you haven’t used it in a yea, it’s time to go to a new home.
  • When it comes to bringing your “keep” items back into your home, consider the wasted space on the walls! The more we all utilize this wall space, the more functional and usable the floor space will be.

Packing Artwork from our Friends at PackRat

How To Pack & Store Your Artwork

From Picasso to Finger-Painting, 1-800-PACK-RAT has You Covered

We have a confession to make, 1-800-PACK-RAT fans. When it’s time to move, we’re picky about how we pack and store our artwork. You can’t find those velvet Elvis paintings just anywhere, you know.

Seriously, artwork can be a big investment, and you want to protect yours when you’re moving or putting it into storage. Art doesn’t even have to be expensive to be valuable. Just think about your children’s baby pictures, the paintings your kids made in school, or the souvenir watercolor you bought to remind you of a great vacation in the islands.

Artwork can also be value because it’s irreplaceable. A friend of ours has a one-of-a-kind oil painting of her great-grandmother in her elegant dining room (although we bet great-grandma wouldn’t look so snooty if she knew a picture of cigar-smoking, poker-playing dogs was hanging one floor below).

Whether you’ve got a signed Andy Warhol, or your kindergartner’s first finger-painting, we can help when it’s time to pack and store your masterpieces. Check out these tips:

  • Use special packing materials to protect your artwork, like sheets of sturdy cardboard, picture and mirror boxes, bubble wrap, and acid-free paper. Ask us—we can help if you need supplies.
  • Don’t roll unframed artwork, to avoid bends and creases. Instead, package it between layers of sturdy cardboard. If you’re worried that the piece will slide around inside, use acid-free paper to make four triangles, leaving one end open on each. Place a paper triangle over each corner of the art. Then add the cardboard layers and secure them with tape.
  • Don’t store your artwork in cardboard for a long time, to avoid possible damage from acid.
  • For extra protection, tape sheets of corrugated cardboard on the top and bottom of your packaged artwork. If you prefer, use bubble wrap.
  • Pack framed artwork in heavy-duty mirror or picture boxes. If the framed piece is really large, you may have to join a couple of boxes together. First, wrap the framed art in bubble wrap. Then slip it into the box or boxes.
  • Mark your artwork as “fragile,” and don’t store it flat. Store artwork on its edge, as you would a mirror.

Packing and storing valuable artwork is a snap when you’ve working with 1-800-PACK-RAT. Just give us a call when you’re ready to transport your velvet Elvis. We’ll take such good care of him, you’ll practically hear the King mumbling, “Thank you, thank you very much!
